Our Story
My name is Joanne Shaw. I am a Durham resident, recently divorced with three kids. I was unhappy with the local limited entertainment options out there. And disgusted with all the negativity towards woman in the news.
After navigating a new chapter in life, I realized how limited the options were for women who wanted a night out that actually felt enjoyable, comfortable, and I could attend on my own if I wished.
Let’s be honest — not every night out is worth it.
Between crowded spaces, unpredictable vibes, and events that don’t quite deliver, it can feel hit or miss.
AME Lounge was created to offer something better — thoughtfully hosted experiences in local spaces you can trust, with an atmosphere that feels easy, welcoming, and genuinely enjoyable.
The main idea is simple : Local, welcoming, safe, reliable, inclusive and fun.
